Don’t you love it when you get a new laptop and less than a year later when you are running on juice instead of the 2.5 hours you are suppose to have magically turns into 30 minutes? Well as I was studying for my A+ certification (which I need to take soon) I came up on calibrating your notebook’s battery. This process can take up to 5+ hours to accomplish and I was like what? EF that…but then I did another Google Search and found a sweet tutorial on how to calibrate your battery on the quick yo. Now this particular video applies to MacBooks but I am sure if you do your own research (I can’t do everything for you) you can find a way to do it fast on any other OS platform.

Enjoy.

Back in August when we started testing the final version of Windows 7, we noticed that several netbooks didn’t last as long on a charge with the new OS installed as with Windows XP. Microsoft claimed that Win 7 notebooks would see longer battery life than Vista, and for the two full-size systems we upgraded that rang true. The Dell XPS Studio 16 only got an extra few minutes, but the Gateway NV lasted an extra hour. Netbooks have been a different story.

Verizon has confirmed that customers will have the option of connecting a laptop to their new Motorola Droid smartphones, on sale tomorrow, using the phone as a wireless modem. The carrier won’t say exactly when customers can do this tethering but they are exact about what it will cost: typically, an extra $30 per month, doubling Droid-related data fees.

Connecting a laptop or other device to a phone for wireless data access is called tethering. Verizon offers this as a service, called Mobile Broadband Connect, for an array of its data-capable 3G smartphones…

That has greatly expanded the range of what people are doing with their Blackberries. So while the 7-month-old Blackberry App World now stocks more than 3,000 programs, only a fraction of those apps are SMB-oriented. Here’s a breakdown by category:

Business (102); Entertainment (227); Finance (89); Games (907); Health/Wellness (101); Instant Messaging/Social Networking (78); Maps/Navigation (135); music/audio (61); News (129); Photo/Video (56); Productivity (199); Reference/E-Books (345); Shopping (21); Sports/Recreation (93); Travel (169); Utilities (304); and Weather (20).

Today Soonr announced the widespread availability of Soonr for Android available in the Android Marketplace. There has been a huge ground swell of support for the Android SmartPhone operating system. Last week Motorola announced the “Droid” phone that they will be launching in conjunction with Verizon wireless, the largest carrier in the USA. This is just the latest in a long line of Android announcements.

Soonr for Android quietly appeared on the Android Marketplace last week, bringing all the goodness of continuous backup, remote access, and collaboration to the Android community. The android application works in conjunction with the Soonr service to give you the ability to protect your computer files and have access to them from anywhere.

Like Android, Soonr was built using industry standard APIs linking the native mobile application to the Soonr Active Backup platform on the internet. The application has been optimized for the Android environment. For example, there is also a unique navigation bar at the bottom of the screen with the major components of Soonr.

KEY FEATURE AREAS:

Dashboard – important events

Projects – online workspaces

Computer – your computers

Search – Find anything

Logout – self explanatory

Only Soonr seamlessly combines Backup, Access, and Collaboration features so that you can work from your desk, a remote computer, or even on your Android phone. Even the largest files can be easily viewed on your phone because Soonr will transform each page into a simple JPG rendering. You will only get the pages you need.

COLLABORATE WITH PROJECTS:

You can create an area where teams of people can share files in online workspaces. These Projects can contain files from multiple people and multiple computers. You can even email files into your projects. Collaborate on files by sharing comments and editing with full version control.

WEB SERVICES:

After collaborating with your team, you can act on the files. Send a Fax to your customer or print a proposal to a color printer in a co-worker’s office across the world! Only Soonr can add powerful web services to your backed up files and make them available on your Android phone.

It may soon be easier for consumers and businesses to buy smartphones, according to a study from ABI Research that said the retail cost will continue to go down. The report, “Smartphone and OS Markets,” said only 18% of smartphones in 2007 were commercially available for under $200, but this year that number has grown to 27%. The report also estimated 45% of smartphones will be priced below $200 by 2014.
