Within 5 years, 45% of smartphones will hit the market for less than $200 with a new contract, according to data from ABI Research.

It may soon be easier for consumers and businesses to buy smartphones, according to a study from ABI Research that said the retail cost will continue to go down. The report, “Smartphone and OS Markets,” said only 18% of smartphones in 2007 were commercially available for under $200, but this year that number has grown to 27%. The report also estimated 45% of smartphones will be priced below $200 by 2014.
